China Outbreak: Labor & Tax Updates

Due to the strengthen prevention and control of the pneumonia outbreak of the new coronavirus infection, the Shanghai municipal government delayed the city's enterprises to resume work and school opening until February 10th, 2020.

During this period of extended holidays wages and salaries must be guaranteed as per respective labor policies. According to law, for salary’s calculation, this period shall be considered as paid leave.

Therefore, employees should not work or, if requested, for working during the extended holidays, the employer should pay the employees two times the normal wage rate.

On January 30th, Wang Jun, secretary of the Party Committee of the State Administration of Taxation has announced that, according to the needs of epidemic prevention and control, the period of tax declarations will be extended from February 17th to February 24th.

Moreover, due to the situation of severe outbreaks, taxpayers who are still having difficulty in filing declarations may apply for further extension according to law.
